Couples head online to get divorced to beat the credit crunch

Mark Keenan, of online divorce service www.divorce-online.co.uk, said “increasing numbers of couples in the process of divorce were heading online to deal with their divorce rather than heading down the high street to instruct a Solicitor because of the credit crunch.”

“The high cost of using a Solicitor which can average over £900.00 plus court fees hasdriven clients to the web to find cheaper alternatives such as Divorce-Online where fees start at just £65.00 for an uncontested divorce”.

Divorce-Online has seen a 48% increase in couples seeking divorce using the web compared to the 1st 6 months of 2007 and in a survey of over 100 clients, the main factor was cost (85%).

Divorce-Online which was set up in 2000 has processed over 48,500 uncontested divorces since it launched and has recently had to take on new staff and premises to cope with the increase in demand for the service.

Mr Keenan also believes that the divorce rate, which has been falling for the last decade will begin to rise again and points to the years 1990-1994 during the last recession when the divorce rate rose sharply only to fall back again as labour came into office and the economy improved.
