When the girls at Divorce Diva read this story we knew we should post it for you all to read, how could a man not have a clue about his wife’s unhappiness? Being married for 17 years surely you would know if the love was gone? Maybe the cold cup of coffee or the hot cooked breakfast turning into a dry old croissant would give you a clue? I know my Ex husband knew when I was un-happy, choosing the hard old sofa over our lovely warm bed made him ask “is everything OK love?”
This is not the case for MILLIONAIRE businessman David Campbell, 64, oblivious to the fact that there were problems in his marriage, the court head that he had expected his wife, Margaret, 67, to come home to Coupar Angus, Perthshire, after she had spent a weekend in Edinburgh, but as he answered the door it wasn’t his wife Margaret greeting him with smile – he was being served with a summons.
Mr Campbell a former pharmacist who later moved into property and antiques was a wealthy bachelor when the couple married in 1990. Yesterday, the judge granted Mrs Campbell a quarter share of the couple’s £3.8 million assets. Mrs Campbell was a divorced science teacher and a mother of three teenage sons.
Mr. Campbell refused to put any properties in joint names and did not hold a joint bank account with his wife, this upset Mrs Campbell as she felt he didn’t trust her, as a result her health had suffered and they had stopped sleeping together, Mrs Campbell added that the only household expense she was to have control of was for food.
The judge had said, in purely financial terms, Mr Campbell was “not ungenerous” to his wife and sons, but had taken a “somewhat hard-headed or isolationist” approach. Mr Campbell had said that the break down in marriage came as a “total shock” in November 2006.
