After putting his Californian ranch on the market for $28 million he has settled for $16.5 million almost half of the asking price, The British Comedy actor John Cleese lived in the property with his estranged wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger.

The property which sits on 14.6 acres of land close to Santa Barbara – attracted little interest, the property is very beautiful with stunning mountain views, but Cleese accepted the very low offer.

Cleese may have to hand over a 2.5 million house in Holland Park, London and a £1.2 million New York apartment to his wife Eichelberger in the divorce settlement.

Eichelberger who is a Psychotherapist is demanding £900,000 a year and half his earnings since 1992, claiming she is used to “being entertained by royalty in castles”.

Cleese insists his estranged wife is basing her demands on a “banner year” in 2007 when his earnings were boosted by voicing a character in ‘Shrek the Third’ and £750,000 made on a property sale.

It’s said that Cleese spoke about the costly divorce joking “The comedian recently spoke about his costly split, joking: “It’s going to be very expensive, but it will be worth every penny.”

The couple split in January after 15 years of marriage and have no children together.
