It’s not just the UK and the States that are seeing increasing numbers of divorce cases, the women of Islamabd, Pakistan, now see themselves much stronger and independent than before, women from all segments of society have become fully aware of their rights, they will no longer tolerate abuse, their fight for independence is just one of the reasons why there is such a lot of dissolution of marriage (Khula) cases depending in district courts.
The cases have risen drastically despite the social stigma attached to divorce, and a high number of women from the upper and middle classes are approaching divorce lawyers in Ialamabd.
One lawyer said that it’s the media who is to blame for the high divorce rate, suggesting it’s the dresses women wear on television that encourages Islamabd women to follow style and their husbands disapprove, as it does not correspond with the Pakistan culture, he feels this offends the husbands and gives rise for misunderstandings.
Working women were said to be the most affected because they had to bear the mental and physical torture inflicted on them by their husbands and in-laws which leads to separations or divorces.
It’s reported that domestic violence was the main reason for an increasing divorce ratio, with women who have been sexually abused, tortured or attacked with acid by their husbands being forced into divorce, even some with three of four children.
