Is divorce less likely if you live together first

Years ago it was said that it was wrong to live together before marriage, now it seems it’s the best to do. A survey reported in USA today of 1,007 adults who were asked if living together before marriage would make divorce more likely, 49% said that living together first would make divorce less likely, 13% said they don’t think it would make any difference and 31% said that living together first would make divorce more likely, there was 7% that had no opinion at all.

It seems obvious to me to live with someone is the right thing to do, you get to see how your partner lives, their funny ways and habits, do they clean after themselves, do they clean the bath and all the other things that could irritate you once you are married, it’s almost try before you buy.

If you or your partner have children from a previous relationship, this could be more difficult although I still thinks a good thing to move in so the children can adjust to you, and you can make sure that however much you love your partner that you are willing to love and take on your partners children too, it’s better to be sure before you get married otherwise you could see yourself in the divorce courts in a year or so. In the survey 12% said that living together with the children before marriage would have a positive effect, 47% said it would make no difference. There rest didn’t have an opinion.

Asked whether they think unmarried couples who have lived together for 5 years are seen as being in a committed relationship, respondents were pretty open-minded, 57% said that they would see the couple as committed.

The general consensus of the topic is that times have changed and are still changing. Let us know your thoughts on living together before marriage.
