This weekend at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe saw the 2008 Comedy Awards final with winner David O’Doherty from Dublin taking the first prize of £8,000 and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne girl Sarah Millican picking up best newer comer and winning £4,000.
O’Doherty played on a keyboard he has since he was eleven and as he put it “waffled a lot” but kept the audience entertained. Sarah Millican entertained the audience with her unique to-the-point analysis of her painful divorce, but it was the divorce that led her to comedy ironically she uses it for laughs now, exploring her lack of self-belief and how her pride was knocked in her divorce, with questions such “will anyone ever fancy me again or what if I want children and will any man commit longer than eight years”.
Millican said even if someone hasn’t been through a divorce they have probably felt these feelings when a relationship is ended we have all kinds of feelings and questions, so generally people can relate to the jokes.
Millican was bouncing off the walls when she won, we love her at Divorce Diva, and we are sure she will keep us laughing and entertained for years to come, good on you Sarah!
